There are numerous modeling and talent organizations out there that are designed for one purpose only: to make money off of people's dreams. If you're going to pay for classes that teach you how to best market yourself and improve your image, that's fine. Shop around, compare prices, check with the Better Business Bureau on a modeling school's reputation. Never, NEVER pay an "agency" money to be represented; it is not acceptable. The agent makes money when YOU make money - PERIOD! You'll have to pay for pictures, but your six-year-old does not need an expensive portfolio. A composite card or head shot will work fine for both local markets and New York. Heard this line before? "If you pay us to place your child's picture on our website, your little darling will be seen by casting agents in LA, Chicago and Miami!" Now ask yourself this question: Why would a casting director in Los Angeles want to bring your child all the way from Pennsylvania for an audition when Hollywood is overflowing with gorgeous, talented kids? Answer: HE WON'T! You need to live near the big markets so that you are close by when agents call with an audition.
